Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations will not proselytize. This means that Habitat for Humanity will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere or convert to a particular faith or respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Steps To Homeownership

  • Applicant must live or work in Porter County for at least 12 months.
  • Applicant must have a need for housing. This can be living in substandard housing, overcrowding, loss of housing, or rent expense consuming a majority of gross monthly income.
  • Applicant must meet the Habitat for Humanity income guidelines for low-income families.
  • Applicant must be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity, and be active in the building process working alongside community volunteers.
  • Must be willing to perform 250 hours of sweat equity (per adult 18 years or older residing in the home)**
  • Partner Families will be required to pay mortgage and insurance payments on the completed home.
  • Interested families will need to attend an “Introduction to Homeownership” session before receiving an application.
