Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations will not proselytize. Steps To Homeownership

  • Applicant must live or work in Porter County for at least 12 months.
  • Applicant must have a need for housing. This can be living in substandard housing, overcrowding, loss of housing, or rent expense consuming a majority of gross monthly income.
  • Applicant must meet the Habitat for Humanity income guidelines for low-income families.
  • Applicant must be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity, and be active in the building process working alongside community volunteers.
  • Must be willing to perform 250 hours of sweat equity per applicant.
  • Homeowners will be required to pay an affordable mortgage which includes taxes and insurance on the completed home.
  • Interested families will need to view the “Introduction to Homeownership” video during the application period.
